Smartfill
IoT Dispenser Re-Design
Smartfill is an intelligent dispenser system delivering affordable, refillable, and plastic-free solutions to low-income markets. We were commissioned to rethink and redesign their dispensers for different applications, collaborating closely to develop and prototype solutions that reduce single-use plastic, simplify retail operations, and make everyday products like rice, sugar, shampoo, and nuts more accessible.
Nude Foods
In collaboration with Smartfill, we designed and developed a versatile dry goods dispensing system capable of handling a variety of products, from nuts to grains. We explored multiple design possibilities, built lab test rigs, and ran DEM simulations to ensure accuracy, durability, and reliability. We rapidly iterated through 3D-printed components and lab-tested assemblies to validate the design before building the pilot unit. The system was trialed at Nude Foods, a zero-waste grocery store in Cape Town, where real-world testing informed refinements for future rollout.

Bangladesh
Smartfill collaborated with Unilever on a pilot program for a package-less shampoo refill dispenser. We worked closely with them to explored design options, prototyped, and tested the dispenser before it was deployed in Bangladesh, delivering a durable, affordable, and sustainable solution for low-income communities.
